The poem is telling about what a motorcycle is saying, has seen, likes and dislikes. This poem does not express an emotion, describe a mood, this poem is all about attitude. The motorcycle is very opinionated; it knows what it likes and knows that it is better than everybody. The speaker is the motorcycle. This poem told through the fictional persona of the motorcycle. Just like a loud boisterous motorcycle the poem is speaking to everyone close enough to listen. It forces you to hear it whether you want to or not. You can trust the speaker because the speaker is so honest and just tells it like it is. The attitude toward the subject of the poem is very forward and confident. The tone of voice for the poem is slow but powerful like that cadence of a motorcycle engine. The tone also has a strong sense of confidence. Words from the poem that suggest the power and confidence are words like, “phonies in Fords, hate pompousness, hate middle class moneymakers, too fast to hear her moo”.
What the Motorcycle said has an irregular rhyme scheme, because it does not use a consistent rhyme pattern. The poem gives off a couple of mixed messages. One of the effects that can be perceived is the idea satisfaction because the author’s feelings and message of the poem can be interpreted without to much trouble. Mona Van Duyn uses words such as hate and shit to describe her feelings toward society as she rides on the motorcycle. The other effect that could be interpreted is the effect of humor. The author’s use of words to describe the sound effects of the motorcycle as well as her perception of society can be perceived as funny. The poem contains a lot of stressed syllables such as hate and passed. The stressed syllable br-r-r-am-m-m, rackety-am-m gives the poem a feeling of alliteration as well as assonance. The other repetitively uses words that resemble in sound and syllables. All in all “What the Motorcycle Said” gives off a feeling of anger, carefree, and a hippie lifestyle.

True Love
Regardless of my initial thoughts on the poem "True Love", I now firmly believe that the narrator was telling a story of misfortune. This is first made apparent through the beginning of the poem, where the narrator states that the relationship started out simply as “friends with benefits,” but quickly – and to the narrator’s seeming misfortune – grew into something more as the two found themselves on the road to parenthood and to further point out her tale of woe and misfortune what seemed to be either a shotgun-marriage or a baby-mama/daddy relationship. “Bound to each other like mountaineers coming down from a mountain” paints such a vivid picture for the reader to envision as they begin to understand the strength of the connection now tied between the narrator and her lover which is then further reinforced with the following line, “bound with the tie of the delivery-room”. As the poem progresses, the narrator continues to illustrate the fact that she is now, due to their recent childbirth, more than ever bound to one another “with huge invisible threads”; strings which creates an invisible band between herself and her significant other. Her clear and utter contempt for this union is evident through her sarcastic statement, “surely this is the most blessed time of my life.” Through such eloquent analogies which work to give the reader a much more firm grasp of the narrator’s intended meanings, she tells not only a vivid story, but also helps the reader to get a feel for what the narrator was feeling as she recited this poem.
Discovery, By Michael Harper
The poem "Discovery" is a poem about love. This is a romantic kind of love that is expressed between two individuals a male (the narrator ) and a female (the narrator 's partner in the poem. The setting is night time on bed (they laid together in the dark the two are close to each other (the narrator could hear her breath as presented by lines one and two. It is possible for lovers to sleep together and engage in an act like sex . I think Harper has thought of convincing the readers of the reality of the narrator 's emotion by attending to the facts that are happening while the narrator is sleeping. Just like love , it may or may not be seen , only felt . When love is true, the person does not wish for it to be recognized nor expect returns from act of pretense. The eyes have always been the window of our inner passion and touch and kiss signify intimacy. The author rightly used the line she was staring at me with her eyes, to demonstrate the act of looking over a loved on in the coldness of the night and the line a little shaken as she stroked my skin and kissed my brow, to literally project sweetness although the challenging night's condition was not directly written in the poem, it is implied especially when line number eight says, her thigh warming mine. The line, her breasts still sturdy could be a depitcion of an aged woman who despite the fading strength in the context of age and experience has shown liveliness or could also mean period of encouragement which is demostrated as a lead up to a more intimate encounter by a woman.

for giving my father
After reading "for giving my father" and it talking about how its Friday, meaning pay day as it states in the first stanza of the poem and being that excited about it because your that poor. It's quiet sad that there is people like this out there today. The poor daughter in this poem tells us that her dad's an old lecher, old liar, and that she wishes he was rich so she could take it all and give it to her mother who was mistreated. So her fathers dead and leaving behind lots of debt for the daughter and mother to pay back. The daughter goes on talking about how the father was a son of a needy father, the father of a needy son. (line 11) The daughters pain and suffer from her fathers death and habits causing her such greif has left her hating her father and wishing he was rich so she could make her mother happy and enjoy life for a change.
